The GoodLife Team is a hip yet professional real estate firm that is quickly becoming a leading Independent brokerage in Austin. In the few years since our humble beginnings (not to mention launching during the real estate crash), we have won many industry awards. Our greatest accomplishment to date is receiving the coveted Inman Most Innovative Brokerage of the Year award. Why all the press? The GoodLife Team has essentially taken the traditional approach to real estate brokerage and flipped it on its head. We’ve designed an entirely new model for real estate – we are the antithesis of the traditional real estate model.
In addition to winning the Inman Award, we have been featured in over 30 publications in the past 24 months! Our team is receiving national kudos and recognition for our innovation, early adoption of technologies, search engine optimization and website strategies, blogging and other new approaches to media and marketing for serving our customers. The GoodLife Team’s culture and reputation is fast-paced, innovative, highly knowledgeable and professional. We strive for the five-star review with every customer. In an industry devastated by a sub-prime meltdown, recession and a lack of invention and change, my company, in contrast, is thriving and growing. We believe in living the good life!
Why are you excited for 2012 Fittest Entrepreneur?
The life of an entrepreneur is 24/7 of living out the vision and production of an innovative product or service we believe can make the world a better place. This means personal fulfillment, but it also means risk, sacrifices, hard work and long hours. Since we use our bodies to perform and produce the dream, it’s imperative that we take care of our bodies first. Yet, I see so many put their physical health last because they don’t think they have time to exercise. Being a contender in the Fittest Entrepreneur competition is a great way to bring forth, through example, that it IS possible to do both! Their are many very successful AND fit entrepreneurs in Austin
What is your strategy to stay fit with your demanding schedule?
I wake up at 5.30 every morning to get in my exercise first. It’s me first and then every one and everything else Second. If I’m not healthy then I’m not the best I can be for others. I fly a lot and every flight begins with the flight attendant saying, “Put your mask on first before assisting others”. I think this same approach is powerful when it comes to taking care of our physical, emotional and spiritual health.
What is your current favorite workout to do and why?
I like many types of workouts because I get bored with the same thing after awhile. I’ll regularly mix Yoga, Pilates, and some strength training, but my love is running. I run at least 3 days a week with an average 4 mile run. Nothing crazy — just consistent. But, what is equally important to the workouts is my diet. I am a vegetarian (or pescatarian as I eat fish) and try to eat only organic foods, drinks lots of water and stay away from most dairy and soy. My secret downfall is sweets – a day doesn’t go by without at least one sweet splurge).
Why is being a fit entrepreneur important to you?
The first core value of my company is “healthy bodies, healthy minds” – so it’s obvious that I think being healthy (which includes fitness) is critical to my success. I lead by example in my company, but you will see within my firm that we have people leading running and walking clubs, we bring in yoga instructors and you’ll even see healthy meals brought from home by my entire staff. Being healthy is part of the culture of my company and we recognize that we have distinct competitive advantage as a result. In addition, my company is called The GoodLife Team – my life is about living a good life and I thinks it’s virtually impossible to enjoy a good life without a healthy body. Why do we work so hard and sacrifice so much if it isn’t all for achieving a good life? So if a healthy body is required to enjoy the fruits of our labor then, again, health comes first.
What is your largest fitness accomplishment in the past year?
My biggest fitness accomplishment was staying consistent with my exercise routine despite doubling the size of my company and launching an entire new business at the same time.
