Why are you excited for 2012 Fittest Entrepreneur?

In 2004 I suffered a heart attack at the age of 43.  My blood pressure and cholesterol were off the charts. This came from years of unhealthy living in which I smoked, drank too much, had poor eating and sleeping habits and was clearly overweight.  Like a lot of people, I thought I was bullet proof until I ended up in an emergency room with tubes coming out of my nose while being prepped to receive a stint.  While I laid there I could visualize my wife and two boys without a husband and father.  That moment changed my life.  I vowed not to leave my family this way and dedicated myself to making that promise a reality.  I’ve spent 6 years of serious training, stopped smoking, started eating healthy, lost 40 lbs which resulted in lowering my blood pressure and cholesterol dramatically.

What is your strategy to stay fit with your demanding schedule?

All I have to do is think about my two boys and my wife and remind myself that I was close to leaving them fatherless 6 years ago because of my lifestyle. That’s all the incentive I need.

What is your current favorite workout to do and why?

I have excellent trainers that mix cardio with weight training 5 days a week.  All of my sessions give me a full body workout.

Why is being a fit entrepreneur important to you?

I’d like to be able to show other 50 year olds that it’s not out of their grasp and never too late to return to healthy living and turn back the clock. That they will feel happier, have more energy and enjoy their family and friends and life in general even more.

What is your largest fitness accomplishment in the past year?

The day my cardiologist took me off all the blood pressure medication I had been on for years.

Give one piece of advice to others looking to get fit and healthy as a busy professional.

No one is too busy to get fit. I workout early in the morning before the phones start ringing. I highly recommend a professional trainer to keep you on task as well.

What is your favorite healthy meal?

Sushi.
